I love my dog. She is very cute, super snuggly, and just the best. But there are just those things that make me wonder sometimes… how did you even get this job?

Sloppy Building

First of all, she goes #2 wherever she wants and just expects me to clean it up. Really? Hardcoding user IDs into Process Builders again? Why are you even using Process Builder??

RevOps requires the utmost responsibility, ownership, and integrity. I really wish she would start thinking more before making those kinds of dumb design decisions. Other people will affected by these decisions for years to come, so be responsible.

Lack of Focus

Also, she has such a “squirrel” mindset, getting distracted at every little thing that happens. Like, have you even heard of monotasking? Close your Slack, mute your email notifications (why do you even have those on anyway?), and maybe get that app that forces you to focus. But if you bark at that bird out the window one more time instead of writing that project plan, I swear…

Sometimes even more important than the actual work we do is how we do the work and the amount of efficiency and productivity we put into it. This takes intentionality and effort, and it's so important.

Work within Constraints

The last thing is, she always pulls so hard against her leash. It’s like she doesn’t understand there are constraints at play. Sure, it’s fun to build awesome things, but you always have to consider your budget, bandwidth, resourcing, and priority before just building the thing.

Did she really need to build that treat request button? No. She didn’t. I don’t think it even works like it was supposed to because she still barks at me every time we come in from a walk.

RevOps folks, please don’t be like my dog, and remember to:

  • Think long-term and take ownership of building quality things
  • Focus and prioritize efficiency and productivity because other people are relying on you
  • Remember to always keep other factors in mind before building something
